THE brief
Mozingo Lake Recreation Park is a state-park quality 3,000 acre park centered around a 1,000 acre lake with 26 miles of shoreline, located just five miles east of Maryville, MO. Over the past decade, Mozingo Lake Recreation Park has grown into a local favorite and staple destination in Northwest Missouri. Mozingo offers numerous recreational opportunities for visitors of all ages. Whether you’re seeking a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature or an action-packed day of outdoor fun, Mozingo Lake has something for everyone.
With so much to offer, the recreation manager at Mozingo wanted an eye-catching, engaging way to ensure visitors at Mozingo are able to explore everything they can during their stay. She came to me with an extremely outdated brochure that lacked details and wasn’t user friendly, so we started brainstorming an illustrative park map complete with walking trails, camping spots, and all the amenities Mozingo Lake Recreation Park includes, complete with detailed information about recreation opportunities, the lakeside Event Center and overnight accommodations. This was such a unique project that really challenged me creatively, so I couldn’t be happier with the final product.

Behind the Design
Before we could get started on the fun part, Mozingo Lake Recreation Park’s brand lacked depth with only a primary stamp logo in one color to work with. I expanded their brand by building out the rest of the color palette, selecting fonts that matched their current style, and designed some alternate logos and fun badges that they can carry throughout the park to expand Mozingo’s brand recognition.

Behind the Brochure
As a 12x18 tri-fold brochure with the park map spanning the entire inside, this brochure took some serious planning. We started by listing out all the information that needed to be included on the brochure, highlighting the most important information and grouping things strategically so that each panel of the brochure flowed cohesively.
For the park map, I referenced the original brochure and did lots of satellite mapping to ensure the layout and proportions of the area were as accurate as possible. Each structure on the map was hand illustrated using a reference image, and the trails and roads were hand drawn using reference maps. The golf course displays 18 and 9 holes respectively, and there are tons of little details throughout that enhance the map and really bring it to life. From dead standing trees in the shallows to beach chairs on the beach and tents in the campground, no detail was left out in this illustrative park map.

The Campground Maps brochure is an insert that fits neatly into the main brochure and accurately depicts the sites at each of Mozingo’s four tent, RV and equestrian campgrounds along with details about how to reserve your site.
